HISTORY ![]()
By the grace of God, Saint Stephen The Great and our American Christian orthodox brothers, Saint Osmond Church in Poole, was purchased in May 2005 , by the Orthodox Saint Stephan the Great Charitable Trust, (reg. no 11090080). This church was completed in 1904 and closed in 2002.On Sunday 12th August 2007, it was consecrated by his Eminence Metropolitan Joseph.
Saint Stephan the Great was chosen as Saint patron for this church because he fought to defend Christian faith and values. Romanian people named Stephan " Great", "Kind", "Saint" for he forgiven those who had done wrong, he punished the greedy and treators, for he fought and won most of his battles. His way to give glory and thank God for helping him was to build churches and monasteries. He was The Prince of Moldavia from 1457 till 1504.
PUTNA MONASTERY was built on the place where the arrow shot from Stephan's bow fell. Over the years it went through numerous changes and repair works. Stephan's tomb, inside the monastery is covered with white marble conopy. Putna monastry's museum reflects the position of a very important centre of medieval culture and artistic creation in Moldavia.
